- Sendai, located in Miyagi Prefecture in northeastern Japan, is about an hour and a half by Shinkansen from Tokyo. It is a place rich in nature with the Pacific Ocean to the east and mountains to the west.
- At Kumanodo, a workshop specializing in the traditional craft of making tansu (traditional Japanese chests made with wood and iron fittings), customers will go on a chopsticks lacquering experience under the direct supervision of artisans, applying lacquer painting techniques used in the process of making Sendai tansu. Look forward to finishing chopsticks, an indispensable part of Japanese food culture, with your own hands. The chopsticks customers made will be sent by post at a later date. (Exceptions apply/Domestic only)
- Experience the spirituality of Japan at Jogi-san Saiho-ji Temple. Feel free to offer heartfelt prayers for the blessing of marriage, fertility, and easy childbirth amidst a quiet environment surrounded by beautiful nature. After visiting, savor Sendai's specialties such as sankaku-age (deep-fried triangular tofu) and yakimeshi (toasted rice ball with miso paste), and experience Japanese temple culture and local cuisine at the same time.
- Discover the mysteries of Japanese sake at Moritami Shuzo Honke, a historical sake brewery founded in 1849. Visit the inside of the brewery, a rare sight, and learn about the traditional process of brewing Japanese sake. Behold the old beams and pillars that illustrate more than 170 years of history, and feel the timeless skills of Japanese artisans.
- This is a private tour for 2-6 customers.

- Cancellation fees will be charged from 10 days in advance.

- If the minimum number of participants (2) is not met by 14 days before the scheduled date, the tour on that date may be canceled.

- The last reception day (reservation deadline) is 14 days prior to the tour.

- For requests regarding tours where answers from the tour operator are required in advance, please input in the Remarks field and contact the tour operator.　

- The itinerary displayed on the booking screen is the final itinerary.

- Please note that participants may not join partway through the tour. Also, participants may join only from the meeting location specified in advance.

- The order of activities and arrival times may differ on the day depending on reasons such as road conditions and congestion at destinations.

- Depending on the number of tour participants, transportation to be used may be other than a hired car (passenger vehicle, van, minivan), small bus, taxi, or a train or route bus on some parts of the tour such as in case of heavy traffic.

- Seats may not be designated.

- As it takes time for the lacquer to dry, the chopsticks made at Sendai Tansu Kumanodo cannot be brought home on the day.

Delivery is available only within Japan. The lacquer has to have dried before delivery, so it will take around 4 days until arrival. Because of this, delivery is possible only for customers who will be staying in Japan for at least 5 more days.

*After shipping, please note that the planning company and Sendai Tansu Kumanodo will not be held liable in case of any damage, loss, etc. As inquiries cannot be made to the planning company and Sendai Tansu Kumanodo, please make any inquiries directly to the shipping company.


In addition, during the chopsticks lacquering experience, please be aware that some customers may develop a rash due to the lacquer depending on their predisposition.

- While children 0-5 years old may join free of charge, if there are many participants, children 0-5 years old may have to sit on the lap of a parent or guardian on board the hired car. If guaranteed seats on the hired car are required for such children, please book them under the child rate.

- The chopsticks lacquering experience at Sendai Tansu Kumanodo is available for customers 6 years of age and older.

- During the Japanese sake tasting experience at Moritami Shuzo Honke, customers 0-19 years of age will be served juice. Furthermore, souvenirs will not be provided.

- Customers will have their own lunch at Jogi-san Saiho-ji Temple. Customers are to pay for their own lunch as it is not included in the tour booking charge.

- As there is a risk of lacquer splashing during the chopsticks lacquering experience, wearing comfortable clothing to enjoy the experience without reserve is recommended.

- As large luggage such as suitcases cannot be brought during the tour, please leave them in a locker or at your hotel before participating. There is a temporary luggage storage service available near the meeting location, Sendai City Tourist Information Center. (Reception Hours: 09:00 - 18:00)
