PLAN

[4km] 1-Day Yoichi & Otaru Walking Tour: Nikka Whisky, Japanese Sake & Otaru Canal (From Sapporo to Otaru)

  • Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery

  • Nikka Whisky

  • Tanaka Sake Brewery Kikkogura

  • Tanaka Sake Brewery Kikkogura

  • Otaru Canal Cruise

  • Tour Details
1. Accompanied by an English-speaking staff member, this walking tour of Yoichi and Otaru is conducted in a small group using local trains and route buses for transport. Embark on a special tour that allows customers to experience the local culture and daily life on a deeper level.

2. Experience the world of authentic whisky at the Nikka Whisky Yoichi distillery! On site are 4 exhibits introducing whisky making and the life of founder Masataka Taketsuru. Enjoy various Nikka whiskies including products exclusive to the distillery at the tasting bar (charges apply).

3. At the Tanaka Sake Brewery established in 1899, visitors can see the manufacturing site and enjoy free tasting of about 10 kinds of Japanese sake and liqueur inside Kikkogura, which has been designated as a historic building of the city. Enjoy unpasteurized sake which can be freshly made all year round due to Hokkaido's climate.

4. The Otaru Sakaimachi Street is lined with stone buildings that vividly retain an atmosphere reminiscent of 1868 to 1926, truly resembling a "living museum." Walking through the retro streetscapes evokes a nostalgic feeling, as if having traveled back in time.

5. On the 40-minute canal cruise departing in the evening, discover the special charm of Otaru that can't be experienced from land. The historical buildings along the canal seen from the boat are even more beautiful when illuminated by the sunset glow, creating a romantic atmosphere.
